Sheffield United are looking to improve following a disastrous season that saw the Blades slip from a third place finish in the 2024-25 season to a 13th place finish last season. Led by Chris Wilder, the club will be aiming to make moves in the summer transfer window that can improve their squad. To do this, the Championship club could look towards Premier League clubs or towards their rival clubs in England’s second tier. Whilst the Blades aim to make incomings, though, outgoings are also possible. Sydie Peck could be one of these, given he is currently being targeted by West Ham United as the Hammers attempt to make an automatic return to the Premier League. Player transfers may not be the only area where the club look to recruit, however. Recruitment in management areas could also be a possibility to help improve development, tactics, and results. With this in mind, Alan Nixon has now reported that former Manchester United defender Phil Jones has been eyed by the Blades who have their eyes on the 34-year-old to become a part of the management team. Nixon has also stated that no one would stand in the way of him going if he wanted to. Jones is currently at Blackburn Rovers but may not form a part of Tony Mowbray’s management team, opening the door to a possible swoop. The former Manchester United defender has been serving at Blackburn as a first-team coach since early February under Michael O’Neill who departed Ewood Park in May after deciding not to take the permanent job. Alan Knill, who has been partnered with Chris Wilder for a prolonged period, will depart Bramall Lane this summer, according to The Star, opening the door even further for a move. It remains to be seen when Sheffield United will move for Phil Jones although the club will want to complete any management deals before pre-season begins. The Blades will be looking to make a strong start to the new season, and the addition of Jones to the management team could be a key factor in their success. With his experience and knowledge of the game, Jones could bring a new level of expertise to the club. Sheffield United's fans will be eager to see how the new season unfolds, and the potential signing of Jones will be a major talking point in the coming weeks. The club's hierarchy will be working hard to ensure that they can attract the right players and staff to the club, and the signing of Jones would be a major coup. As the summer transfer window heats up, Sheffield United will be looking to make their move and bring in the players and staff they need to succeed.
