Sheffield United are reportedly eyeing a move for Rapid Vienna midfielder Romeo Amane. The 23-year-old has plied his trade in the Austrian capital since January 2025, when he made the move from Swedish outfit Häcken. He enjoyed a strong 2025/26 campaign in Vienna, impressing in the Austrian Bundesliga and the UEFA Conference League. According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Amane has attracted interest from Sheffield United, Birmingham City and Wrexham. All three will be looking to trouble the promotion picture next season and could prove to be attractive destinations for the Ivorian. Posting on X, O’Rourke said: “Understand Championship trio Birmingham, Wrexham and Sheffield United are all eyeing moves for highly-rated Rapid Vienna midfielder Romeo Amane.” For Sheffield United, the middle of the park looks set to be an area of focus. Kalvin Phillips and Djibril Soumaré are back at parent clubs Manchester City and Braga after their loan stints, and Jaïro Riedewald has been released. The signing of Alex Matos from Chelsea last year has not worked out. If he departs, Sheffield United’s central midfield department will look even thinner. Amane is a tidy passer with an impressive engine, enabling him to get to grips with the gritty side of the game as well as the technical aspects. After joining Häcken as a teenager, he said he had taken inspiration from Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta. He said: “I have watched Iniesta a lot growing up and tried to learn from his way of playing. My strength lies in my passing game, but in the last two years I have also worked a lot on my running strength and box-to-box game. “I have watched a lot of BK Häcken's matches and like the way the team plays. I also like that the club has a clear vision and that it is not just about winning football matches. I hope to take a place in the team, be at my best when it matters and become an important player for the club.”
