Sheffield United's recent unbeaten run ended with a 2-1 defeat at Charlton Athletic on Saturday 7 November. Substitute Matt Godden scored the decisive goal in the 79th minute, handing the Blades their second loss in five Championship games.

Millenic Alli gave the hosts an early lead, firing home from 20 yards in the 12th minute. Jordan Ayew, making his first start since joining in September, equalised for United 13 minutes later, heading in after Kalvin Phillips' free-kick was parried.

The match turned on a late intervention. Godden, who had only been on the pitch for four minutes, hooked in Alli's cross at the near post to secure Charlton's first league win since late August. Sheffield United pushed for a second equaliser in eight minutes of added time, but Charlton goalkeeper Will Mannion made a superb low save to deny Sydie Peck.

Sheffield United's form now reads two wins, one draw and two defeats from their last five outings, a sequence that began with a 3-2 loss at Portsmouth on 14 October. This was followed by a 1-0 win at Bristol City on Saturday 17 October, a 1-1 home draw with Derby on 24 October, a 1-0 home victory over Wrexham on 30 October, and a 3-2 win at Preston on Tuesday 3 November where Sydie Peck scored a hat-trick.

The result leaves the Blades looking to regroup before their next fixture, a home game against Watford on Saturday 21 November.

The game was also marred by an injury to United substitute Femi Seriki, who was stretchered off just minutes after coming on at half-time. Patrick Bamford remains the club's top scorer this season with five goals in 11 appearances. The Blades will aim to return to winning ways at Bramall Lane in a fortnight.
