Callum O'Hare is set for an emotional return to Bramall Lane when his Wrexham side face Sheffield United in the Championship on Friday night. The 28-year-old midfielder made 98 appearances for the Blades before his summer move to the Welsh club for a fee reported to be around £8 million. The fixture on Friday 30 October provides the stage for his return.
O'Hare said he is eager for the reunion but emphasised the priority is securing points. "I'm looking forward to going back to my old club," O'Hare said.
Focus on the fixture
The match arrives with Sheffield United looking to improve on a recent run of one win, one draw and three defeats from their last five games. This sequence includes a 1-0 win at Bristol City on Saturday 17 October, but also defeats to Portsmouth, Stoke City and Fleetwood Town. Their most recent outing was a 1-1 draw with Derby County last Saturday, where Patrick Bamford's 79th-minute equaliser salvaged a point after Bobby Clark had put Derby ahead in the 37th minute. Bamford is the club's top scorer this season with five goals in 11 appearances.
Wrexham, sitting 17th in the standings, are two points behind 12th-placed United. O'Hare has made eight appearances for his new club since joining, featuring for 78 minutes on his debut against Swansea City on September 5. He is yet to register a goal or an assist.
"It'll be a good game, but we're just focused on getting three points on Friday night because we need them," O'Hare added. The former Blade has been partnering Kieffer Moore in attack for Wrexham.
Summer of change
O'Hare's departure was part of a significant turnover at Bramall Lane this past summer. The club also sold Gus Hamer to Coventry City for £6 million, while the transfer of youngster Ande Brooks to Norwich City could eventually be worth up to £10 million with add-ons.
Sheffield United will hope their home advantage proves decisive as they seek a first win in three matches, having last won against Bristol City. The full fixtures schedule shows a busy period ahead after this Friday's clash. O'Hare will be aiming to make a telling contribution against familiar opponents in front of the Bramall Lane crowd.
