Former Sheffield United defender Jack Robinson has joined Derby County on a three-month deal. The 33-year-old free agent provides immediate cover for a Rams squad hit by injuries.

Derby manager John Eustace confirmed the move on Friday. "Derby County have strengthened their defense by signing free agent Jack Robinson on an initial three-month contract at Pride Park," he said.

Robinson, who spent more than five years at Bramall Lane, arrives after his contract at Birmingham City was terminated by mutual consent last month. He made 51 Premier League appearances for Sheffield United and was part of the side that won promotion from the Championship.

The club noted his versatility, stating he "can operate both as a central defender and as a backup at left-back, giving the team additional defensive flexibility." Robinson is not eligible for Derby's match against Stoke City this weekend and will be assessed by the club's conditioning staff before joining first-team training.

His signing comes as Derby sit second from bottom in the Championship, winless in their last six games. Sheffield United, meanwhile, halted a four-game losing streak with a 1-0 win at Bristol City on Friday, a result that moved them up the standings. Oliver Arblaster scored the only goal in that victory.

The Blades' next fixture is at home to Robinson's new club, Derby County, on Saturday 24 October. Patrick Bamford remains the team's top scorer this season with four goals. Robinson's experience, with almost 300 Championship appearances, will be tested quickly in that upcoming derby.
