Sheffield United transfer target Anel Ahmedhodzic was not involved for Feyenoord at the weekend.
What happened?
Feyenoord head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirmed Ahmedhodzic was not left out of the matchday squad on Sunday because of an injury. The Bosnian, who is a target for the Blades, was a notable absentee from the Feyenoord squad for their 2-2 draw with Go Ahead Eagles on Sunday afternoon.
Why it matters for Sheffield United
The Star revealed on Saturday morning that the Blades are lining up a move to bring Ahmedhodzic back to Bramall Lane amid their ongoing quest to strengthen their centre-back options. The 27-year-old left United just over a year ago after three seasons at the club.
What comes next?
Blades boss Chris Wilder confirmed that he understands the centre-back is “available” ahead of the window closing on September 1. Ahmedhodzic’s absence from Feyenoord’s matchday squad less than 24 hours later only fuelled speculation that an exit from Stadion Feijenoord is on the cards. Van Bronckhorst was coy about the former Blade’s future but admitted that he was not missing because of an injury. Asked if a departure was imminent for the defender, Van Bronckhorst said: “I don't know. I haven't discussed with Dévy Rigaux how things stand with him or if a transfer is coming up.”
