Christian Nwachukwu has scored twice for Sabah FK since his summer exit from Sheffield United. The 20-year-old winger, who never made a senior appearance for the Blades, has contributed two goals and an assist in eight outings for his new Turkish club.
Nwachukwu was part of a recruitment strategy at Bramall Lane that did not yield the intended results. Signed from Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv, he was sent on loan to Serik Spor before his permanent move to Sabah FK was completed on a three-year deal. His time at United coincided with a period of transition that included a change in manager from Ruben Selles to Chris Wilder and a 13th-place Championship finish last season.
Post-Blades progress
His early form in Turkey has been encouraging. Beyond his domestic contributions, Nwachukwu also made his UEFA Champions League debut and featured for 45 minutes against Manchester United at Old Trafford in a pre-season friendly, a match Sabah FK lost 4-0. This represents a significant step up in competitive experience for the young forward.
Sheffield United's focus is now firmly on their current Championship campaign. The team's recent form has been mixed, with three wins and two defeats from their last five matches, a sequence reading LLWWW from most recent to oldest. They were beaten 2-1 by Stoke City last time out, with Kalvin Phillips scoring their consolation goal.
Chris Wilder's side will look to return to winning ways when they host Lincoln City at Bramall Lane on 10 October.
